MEDIA RELEASE - ASDACS Welcomes Government Decision to Protect Copyright and Creators’ Rights

ASDACS welcomes the federal government’s announcement ruling out any changes to copyright law that would allow big tech companies to use creators’ content for free under the Productivity Commission’s proposed text and data mining exception.

ASDACS Chair, Di Drew said:
“Directors’ rights are fundamental to sustaining a vibrant screen culture. We applaud the government’s commitment to upholding copyright and ensuring that creators are not disadvantaged by emerging technologies.”

ASDACS Executive Director Deb Jackson said:
“This decision is a strong affirmation of the value of creative work and the importance of fair compensation for creators. We commend the government for rejecting proposals that would undermine copyright protections and harm Australia’s creative industries.”

ASDACS will join the government’s Copyright and AI Reference Group (CAIRG) meeting this week, which will focus on strengthening AI regulation. We will continue to monitor copyright developments closely to ensure directors’ rights remain protected in the evolving digital landscape.
